Darien, Staples lead strong girls tennis field into FCIAC tournament

The playoff teams and seeds are set for the FCIAC girls tennis tournament, which will serve up quarterfinal matches on Wednesday on the home courts of the top four seeds.

Defending league champion Darien (16-0) is the No. 1 seed, and wrapped up an unbeaten regular season when it defeated Norwalk 6-1 on Monday.

The Staples Wreckers (15-1), last year’s league runners-up, took the No. 2 seed, followed by No. 3 Greenwich (14-2) and No. 4 New Canaan (13-3).

Wilton (12-4) is the No. 5 seed and Ludlowe (11-5) is No. 6, after Wilton won a head-to-head match-up 5-2 on Monday.

The Ridgefield Tigers (9-6), who have a match to play Tuesday against Stamford, have nailed down the No. 7 seed, while the Westhill Vikings (9-7) are No. 8.
