Darien a unanimous No. 1 in final ice hockey poll

The Darien Blue Wave, as expected, was the unanimous choice for the state’s No. 1 ranking in the final New Haven Register/GameTimeCT Top 10 Ice Hockey Poll for the 2014-15 season.

Darien compiled a 23-2-1 record, while winning both the FCIAC and CIAC Div. I championships. The Wave won the state final, 1-0, over conference rival Greenwich at Ingalls Rink, with a goal from Jack Pardue and 23 saves in a masterful performance by goalie Will Massie.

Greenwich, the runner-up in both the FCIAC and Div. I tournaments, finished at No. 2 with a record of 21-3-2. The Cardinals and Blue Wave tied, 3-3, in their regular-season meeting.

Those two teams were followed by two state semifinalists, with Xavier (14-6-3) at No. 3 and Glastonbury (18-5-1) at No. 4. Notre Dame-Fairfield (12-10) is No. 5.

The Ridgefield Tigers, who went 15-8 this winter, is the third FCIAC team in the top 10, slotting in at No. 6. The Tigers was one of only two teams to beat Darien this season, as they crushed the Wave, 4-1, at the Winter Garden on January 12.

Rounding out the top 10 are No. 7 Hamden (11-11-1), No. 8 Fairfield Prep (10-11), No. 9 Notre Dame-West Haven (9-10-2), and No. 10 Suffield/Graby/Windsor Locks, the Div. II champion which went 20-5 this year.
