FCIAC golfers starring at Connecticut Junior Amateur Championship

Seven FCIAC golfers will be moving into match play at the 73rd Connecticut Junior Amateur Championship being held at Watertown Golf Club this week.

The golfers, representing seven FCIAC schools, advanced by finishing in the top 32 during stroke play on Monday. The Round of 32 and the Round of 16 will be played on Tuesday.

Leading that group is Darien’s Sam Knowlton, who shot at even-par 71 and finished in a four-way tie for second place. He will be the No. 3 seed for match play and will take on No. 30 Ramsey Kong in the Round of 32.

New Canaan’s Justin Clark and Ridgefield’s Jonathan Spicci finished in a tie at sixth place after shooting 1-over par 72s. Clark was awarded the No. 6 seed and Spicci the No. 7 seed,

Warde’s Tyler Mazut shot a 2-over par 73 and finished tied for ninth, taking the No. 12 seed.

McMahon’s Connor O’Brien and Danbury’s Max Theodorakis tied for 19th at 75, with O’Brien seeded 20th and Theodorakis seeded 22nd.

Greenwich’s Derek Sudell was 24th at 76 and will play as the No. 24 seed.

The field will be reduced  eight golfers for Wednesday, which will feature the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. An 18-hole final will be played at 8 a.m., Thursday.
