A clear message awaited the New Canaan Rams when they arrived in the locker room before their Homecoming Day football game against the Westhill Vikings.

On the whiteboard were the words: “Champions with play with a motor always.”

“That means no matter who you’re playing, you’ve got to play with that fire every single time you step on the field,” senior co-captain Garrett Braden said. “We brought it today and got the early lead, but we can always get better.”

New Canaan was in control from the start, scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter and rolling to a 38-14 victory over Westhill to the delight of the Homecoming crowd Saturday at Dunning Field.
