Norwalk’s Steven Enoch to play hoops for UConn Huskies

FI-basketballA former star basketball player from the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference has announced that he has accepted an offer to play for the University of Connecticut.

Former Norwalk High School basketball star Steven Enoch recently announced that he will accept the offer from coach Kevin Ollie to play for the defending national champion Huskies.

Enoch, a 6-foot-10, 225-pound power forward, was selected to the 2013-14 All-FCIAC Central Division Team and the All-FCIAC Defensive Team. He has made great strides in his development as a promising big man since the winter and further impressed recruiters with his play in early June at the Pangos Camp in Long Beach, Calif.

He made an unofficial visit to UConn in June and last weekend he made his official visit, which included being among the 30,098 football fans at Rentschler Field on Saturday, Sept. 13, when the Huskies dropped to 1-2 with a 38-21 loss to Boise State.

Shortly afterward Enoch announced on his twitter account: “I will be playing college basketball at the University of Connecticut next season.”

Enoch will play at St. Thomas More Prep in Oakdale for this coming season before he enrolls at UConn for the 2015-16 season.

Last season Enoch averaged 14.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game for Norwalk’s Bears, who finished 9-12 overall and 8-10 in the FCIAC. He made steady improvement throughout the season and was a much better player in March than he was in December.

Enoch had double-doubles (double digits in points and rebounds) in 13 of Norwalk’s 21 games, with one big game occurring on Jan. 31 when he had season highs of 26 points and 16 rebounds while leading Norwalk to a 57-53 victory over Ludlowe. That began Enoch on a stretch where he averaged 18.1 points and 12.6 rebounds per game for the final 10 games of the year. That included a triple-double performance in which Enoch racked up 20 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocked shots while leading Norwalk to a 69-44 victory over Bassick.

Enoch also received offers from Boston College, Arizona State, Drexel, Kansas State, Memphis, Oregon, Providence and Rhode Island and he was also being seriously recruited by the likes Creighton and Virginia Commonwealth according to the ESPN Recruiting Nation Basketball link.
