Livingston, Kane named to All-State basketball First Team

Jeremiah Livingston of Westhill and Norwalk’s Roy Kane Jr. were the two FCIAC players among the 12 players selected to the 2014-15 New Haven Register All-State Boys Basketball First Team.

Livingston concluded his fantastic career by leading Westhill to the FCIAC championship and to the championship game of the CIAC Class LL Boys Basketball Tournament, where the second-seeded Vikings lost a 51-50 heartbreaker to top-seeded Fairfield Prep.

Livingston, a 6-foot senior guard, averaged 25.7 points, six rebounds and five assists per game this season. He fired in 40 points to lead Westhill to its first FCIAC  championship since 1989 with a 64-60 victory over Norwalk in this year’s conference tournament final.

Livingston was on the Register’s All-State second team last year. He was an excellent scorer throughout his career as he averaged 25.1 points during his final three seasons when coach Howard White’s Vikings had a combined 57-16 record. He is Westhill’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,537 career points.

Livingston was also selected to the All-FCIAC Boys Basketball First Team for the second consecutive year this year. This season he was the conference’s Player of the Year. Livingston’s plans are to play at a junior college next season.

Kane, a 6-foot-6 senior forward, was a dominant force on the inside offensively and defensively. He averaged 21.1 points, 14.4 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game while leading Norwalk to the conference tournament final.

Kane racked up 1,590 points, 1,037 rebounds and 306 assists in his career and is the school’s second all-time leading scorer behind the legendary Calvin Murphy, who excelled at Niagara University and then had a fantastic career for the Rockets in the NBA to earn induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Kane made the All-FCIAC Boys Basketball First Team for the third straight year this season. Last year he was on the Register’s All-State third team. He will most likely play at a prep school next year.

The other 10 players who joined Livingston and Kane on the All-State first team were seniors DeAnte Bruton of Ledyard, Jarron Chapman of Naugatuck, KeAndre Fair of Weaver, Shakeem James of Hartford Public, Thomas Nolan of Fairfield Prep, Malik Petteway of Sacred Heart, Ryan Pittman of Bunnell, Collin Sawyer of New London, and juniors Mustapha Heron of Sacred Heart and Tyreek Perkins of Career. Heron was the State Player of the Year.

Davidson of Notre Dame-Fairfield, Matt Folger of Weston, John Lambert of East Catholic, Tracy Rumley of Maloney, Joe Tamburro of South Windsor and Shea Tracy of Terryville; juniors Robert Durant of Wilbur Cross, Charles Fisher of Sacred Heart, Rich Kelly of Fairfield Prep; and sophomore Jaecee Martin of Weaver.

There were four FCIAC players on the 12-player All-State third team. Marcus Blackwell, a 6-foot-4 senior from Bridgeport Central, made the All-State third team for the second straight year. The other three from the FCIAC were Kweshon Askew, a 6-foot-7 senior from Stamford; CJ Donaldson, a 5-foot-8 senior from Westhill; and Tyrell St. John, a 6-foot senior from Trinity Catholic.

There were 52 players who earned All-State Honorable Mention. The three FCIAC players among that contingent were Fairfield Ludlowe’s Matt Doyle, Danbury’s Tysheen McCrea and Trumbull’s Rashard Rodriguez.

Livingston, Kane, Shifrin, Blackwell, Askew, Doyle, Rodriguez and Warren Harding’s T.J. Killing were the eight players on this season’s All-FCIAC First Team.
