Darien had been bidding for an undefeated FCIAC regular season, a remarkable feat, but was beaten by the Staples Wreckers, 8-2, on Friday. That loss made today’s showdown in New Canaan even more important, as both teams could be in line for the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, which begins on May 26.
New Canaan owns records of 14-3 overall and 13-2 in the FCIAC, while Darien is 14-3 overall and 14-1 in the conference.
A New Canaan win would push the Rams ahead of Darien via the head-to-head tiebreaker, while a Darien win would keep the Wave in front, while knocking New Canaan back to third place. Norwalk, which is 13-2 in league play, is also in the mix for the top seed, but New Canaan owns the tiebreaker based on its 2-1 win over the Bears earlier this season. Norwalk will host Darien in the regular season finale on Friday.
The game coverage is part of the Hersam Acorn Network’s teaming with the NFHS Network to add live video to HAN Radio, southwestern Connecticut’s leader in live high school sports coverage.
The live sporting events and archived video are available for a subscription fee, which varies based on how long you want access to Hersam Acorn’s content on the NFHS Network. Part of the subscription fee will benefit the ongoing operations of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC), its member schools and student athletes.
