FCIAC Scholar-Athletes, May, 2015

Mike Morrow, Danbury

Mike is an excellent high jumper and team captain for the boys’ track and field programs has won individual championships while helping lead the Hatters to many team championships the last few years on the indoor and outdoor track circuits. He is a two-time state champion in the high jump.

This Villanova track and field recruit has consistently made High Honor Roll. Mike is president of the National Business Honor Society, a DECA state finalist and national competitor, and an Eagle Scout.

Nick Warkentin, Fairfield Ludlowe

Nick is a cross country runner, baseball player, musician and an excellent student who will attend the University of Michigan.

He has a 4.27 GPA and has been on Honor Roll since 2011. He was a member of the National Honor Society, Science Honor Society and Math Honor Society in 2014. Nick was also a member of La Societe Honoraire de Francias and English Honor Society in 2013, and he received the World Language Academic Achievement Award in 2012 and 2014, and the AP Scholar Award in 2014.

Nick was a cross country team captain and the recipient of the Cross Country Scholar Athlete Award.

He also volunteers for several community service organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity and the American Field Society Club.

Nick has also performed Wind Ensemble/Jazz Ensemble Trumpet since 2012.

Teddy Coogan, Staples

Lauren Hilliker, Fairfield Ludlowe

This senior is an excellent student-athlete who has a 4.0 GPA and has been on the Headmaster’s List for every quarter of high school. She is a member of the National, Math and Science Honor Societies.

Lauren has been a three-year varsity player for the girls’ tennis team and a key component toward Ludlowe winning FCIAC team championships in 2013 and ’14 and a state championship last year. She has been on the No. 1 doubles team the past two years and earned All-FCIAC honors in 2014.

Allegra Molkenthin, Darien

This senior co-captain of the girls’ varsity tennis team has been with the program since her sophomore year and she has been a member of the girls’ varsity ice hockey team and a key contributor toward that powerful program having won the last three FCIAC championships.

Allegra is also an excellent student – a National Honor Society member who was elected Treasurer and also elected as Historian by her peers in the society. She is a 2015 National Merit Commended Scholar and has achieved a very high ACT score of 34.

She has participated in several science and engineering fairs along with many other programs for accomplished students.

Alex is also a paid tutor for ABC House – A Better Chance Non-Profit.

Katie DeCarlo, Fairfield Ludlowe

Katie has a cumulative GPA of 3.73, having made Honor Roll all four years since her freshman year, and she has been a National Honor Society member as a junior and senior.

She is an excellent catcher for the softball team, a starter since her freshman year. She was selected All-FCIAC Second Team last year and FCIAC Honorable Mention her first two years.

Katie also volunteers for several community organizations. She has been a McKinley Outreach Program tutor all four years in high school and the last two years she has been a student advisor for Builders Beyond Borders.

Her future plans include studying marketing at Marquette University.

Drew Hardin, Darien

This well-rounded senior is a versatile athlete, an excellent student and a performing artist who will attend Vassar College this coming fall.

Drew, a volleyball player and a sprinter afor the track and field team, has a cumulative 3.94 GPA while taking four AP classes and he has been a National Honor Society member as a junior and senior.

As a freshman he was a winner in the English Class Poetry Competition and Spanish Class Poetry Competition.

This year Drew was a National Anthem Soloist at an NHL Charity Hockey Game and he’s been a Baritone Soloist involved with the Kathryn Amyotte Voice Studio every year since he was a freshman. He’s also performed in several DHS Musical Theatre plays.

Drew also belongs to many high school clubs and community service organizations.
