Watch Live: Darien at Ridgefield field hockey, 4, Monday

The Ridgefield High field hockey team faces its sternest test so far this season Monday afternoon, when the Tigers host perennial conference and state power Darien.

The 4 p.m. game will be broadcast live from Tiger Hollow on the HAN.Network and its affiliate websites — including theridgefieldpress.com and FCIAC.net. All regular-season Connecticut sports contests on HAN.Network are broadcast for free. You can see the initial fall schedule here.

Darien, which shared the Class L state championship with Glastonbury last year, comes into Monday’s game with a spotless 7-0 record. The Blue Wave have outscored their first seven opponents by a combined 36-3.

Darien has won seven state titles in the past eight seasons and five FCIAC championships in the last seven years.

Ranked first in the state in the most recent coaches poll, Darien features two of the state’s top players in Marissa Baker and Georgia Cassidy, both All-FCIAC first team selections in 2014. Freshman forward Katie Elders has also made an impact this fall.

With a strong group of seniors, Ridgefield was expected to be among the conference’s top teams this fall. But the Tigers have struggled so far, going 3-4 through their first seven games.

Ridgefield’s standouts include seniors Rebekah Silver (All-FCIAC first team last year), Kimmy Weinstock and Sarah Wilson, and sophomores Katie Pieterse, Julia Wilson and Natalie Silver. The Tigers have been hurt by the absence of senior defender Claire Taben, who is out for the season due to a knee injury

The HAN Network, formerly known as Hersam Acorn Newspapers, is the exclusive FCIAC broadcast partner through the spring of 2018. HAN Network’s broadcasting division replaces HANRadio.com with a new focus on live video streams of high school athletics along with the Network’s news and lifestyle programming.
