Unbeaten Darien carries top seed into volleyball playoffs; quarterfinal pairings set

The Darien Blue Wave hasn’t lost a set yet this season and they’ll carry an unbeaten streak into the postseason as the No. 1 seed in the FCIAC gorls volleyball tournament. The playoofs begin withbthe quarterfinal round on Tues., Oct. 28.

Darien (18-0), the No. 1 seed, finished up an undefeated regular season with a 3-0 win over Central, and will host No. 8 Danbury (10-8) in the quarterfinals. Danbury nailed down the last remaining seed with its victory over Trinity Catholic on Friday.

The final day of the regular season had just one change in the standings, as Greenwich defeated Ridgefield 3-2 and jumped ahead of the Tigers for the fifth seed.

All of the other qualifiers won, including Stamford and Ludlowe, who finished tied in second place with 16-2 records. Stamford took the No. 2 seed based on its win over Ludlowe on Oct 18.

Stamford will host No. 7 Trumbull (11-7) in the quarterfinals, while No. 3 Ludlowe hosts No. 6 Ridgefield (13-5).

The 4-5 game will feature Greenwich (13-5) at St. Joseph (15-3).

Quarterfinals, Tuesday, Oct. 28

No. 8 Danbury (10-8) at No. 1 Darien (18-0), 4 p.m.

No. 7 Trumbull (11-7) at No. 2 Stamford (16-2), 4 p.m.

No. 6 Ridgefield (13-5) at No. 3 Ludlowe (16-2), 4 p.m.

No. 5 Greenwich (13-5) at No. 4 St. Joseph (15-3), 4 p.m.

Semifinals at Fairfield-Ludlowe, 5 and 7 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 30

Final at Fairfield-Ludlowe, 4 p.m., Sat., Nov. 1
