This junior track and field runner has won medals in FCIAC and state championship meets and has achieved nothing but grades in the A and B range while receiving full honors for all three years of high school.

Alexandra hopes to continue her running career in college and pursue Athletic Training and Exercise Science as her focal courses of study.

This superb student had a 4.2 cumulative GPA for four years, was ranked fourth out of 360 students in his senior Class of 2013 and he was accepted into the University of Connecticut Business School as a finance major.

Steven was a member of the National Honor Society, vice president of his school’s chapter of the Spanish National Honor Society and he has received the Excellence in English I, Excellence in World History, Excellence in Algebra 2, Excellence in Personal Finance and Excellence in English III awards throughout his career at Norwalk High School’s annual academic Excellence Awards Ceremony.

After beginning his high school athletic career with the freshman baseball team, Steven switched to indoor and outdoor track as a sophomore, he switched over to tennis during the spring seasons of his last two years and was the No. 4 singles player and elected team captain as a senior.

Faith Garcia, Staples

Faith transferred to Staples in August of 2012 after having been enrolled at Trinity Catholic for her freshman and sophomore years and she said that the acceptance and support she received from her teammates, classmates and teachers was quite instrumental toward her success in the classroom and on the golf links.

She was the No. 1 golfer for Staples and earned All-FCIAC and All-State honors. Faith shot an 85 to tie for third place individually while leading the Wreckers to second place in the FCIAC, she placed sixth while helping Staples tie Greenwich for second place in the state tournament and then she placed 10th in the New England tournament. She had scores in the 30’s six times during the regular season.

Kellie Hurd, Trinity Catholic

This Norwalk resident has budgeted her time toward excelling in the classroom and on the playing fields while also working numerous side jobs and volunteering her time to the communities of Stamford and Norwalk.

Kellie is also a natural leader, exhibited by her being selected team captain for the girls’ soccer, girls’ basketball and softball teams at Trinity Catholic, where she earned several awards and scholarships. She received the Cassidy Geary Memorial Scholarship, the Mary Kay Smith Memorial Scholarship, and the Rachel Sottosanti Memorial Scholarship.

Kellie was a school ambassador, a tutor, and a member of the Multicultural Club, Yearbook Club and Art Club. She has also been a camp counselor as several sports camps.

Benna Jacob, Trumbull

Joe Matera, Trumbull

Joe has earned All-New England, All-State and All-FCIAC honors as a member of Trumbull’s track and field teams. The team captain was among the runners on the 4×400 and sprint medley relay teams that set school records.

He has also been an Honor Roll student every year since 2010. Joe was senior class vice president, a member of the Spanish Club and he’s also been a member of the football, soccer and basketball teams at Trumbull.

Joe is a peer mediator and he also volunteered for his community by teaching and encouraging children with special needs at the Skane School Summer Program.

Heidi Druehl, Westhill

This versatile athlete has been a key contributor to Westhill’s girls’ soccer and girls’ track and field teams.

After being selected to the All-FCIAC Girls’ Soccer second team in 2011, Heidi continued her stellar play this past season and was selected to the All-FCIAC Girls’ Soccer first team in 2012. She was a member of the U-15 State Cup championship team and has been selected by the United States Soccer Federation to participate in its training centers five times from 2010-12.

As a track sprinter Heidi has placed high in many individual events and as a member of relay teams at championship meets, highlighted by being a member of a sprint medley relay team that placed sixth in a state championship meet in 2013.

She earned academic kudos by placing first in the district competition for History Day in 2011. Heidi also volunteers for several organizations and charities at her church and in her community.

Ryan Sean Daly, Westhill

Ryan achieved a weighted 4.2 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Division of the World Language National Honor Society.

He was a three-season distance runner and a captain as a senior for the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field teams.

Melissa Migden, Westhill

Melissa has been a sprinter for seven seasons for the indoor and outdoor track and field programs while taking a heavy load of challenging class courses, including eight AP classes and 11 Honors classes.

She was a team captain for both the indoor and outdoor teams and will enroll at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst late in the summer.

Megan D’Alessandrso, Westhill

Megan truly is the total package – excelling in athletics and in the classroom in addition to finding time to volunteer for several organizations and participate in extra curricular activities.

As a basketball player she was selected to the All-FCIAC first team in each of the last two years and honored as the Channel 12 Scholar Athlete of the Week and the 2012 MSG Varsity Athlete of the Week. Megan has also been named team MVP and selected to the All-FCIAC second team as a volleyball player, and she also excels in softball as she made the All-FCIAC first team in 2013 and was a member of Westhill’s Class LL state championship team in 2010.

Megan had a 3.9 cumulative GPA while taking many AP and Honors classes.
