New Canaan captures FCIAC field hockey championship

The New Canaan Rams were getting ready to board a bus bound for the FCIAC field hockey final on Thursday, but head coach Erin Gildea had one item left on her agenda before leaving.

Gildea took her players into the NCHS gymnasium, where they looked at the field hockey banner which displayed the last time the Rams had won an FCIAC title — 14 long years ago.

“There’s plenty of room next to that ‘2000’ for another one,” the coach said.

A few hours later, the New Canaan Rams were, at long last, champions of the FCIAC.
