Hoops on: Field set for FCIAC girls basketball playoffs

Due to the fact that Saturday is a make-up SAT day, and several athletes from qualifying teams are taking the test, the schedule for the FCIAC girls basketball quarterfinal has been changed.

One game will be played at Fairfield-Warde High School, and a tripleheader will be hosted by Stamford High.

Here is the updated schedule:

One game at Fairfield-Warde HS

No. 8 Norwalk (9-7) vs. No. 1 Warde (15-1), 1 p.m.

Tripleheader at Stamford HS

No. 5 Greenwich (13-3) at No. 4 Ridgefield (13-3), 4 p.m.

No. 6 Ludlowe (11-5) at No. 3 Trumbull (14-2), 5:30 p.m.

No. 7 Wilton (10-6) vs. No. 2 Stamford (14-2), 7 p.m.

Original story: The Warde Mustangs will head into the postseason as the top seed in the FCIAC girls basketball season after wrapping up a 15-1 conference regular season on Wednesday.

The two biggest games on the slate for the final day of the season were between Trumbull and Stamford, who battled for the No. 2 seed, and the St. Joseph Cadets and Norwalk Bears, who were fighting for the last tournament berth.

In Stamford, the home team Black Knights topped the Trumbull Golden Eagles, 52-43, to secure the No. 2 seed and a home game for the quarterfinals. Stamford’s win gave it and Trumbull identical 14-2 league marks, with Stamford taking the higher position based on the head-to-head tiebreaker.

In the game for the eighth seed, the Norwalk Bears punched their playoff ticket by beating St. Joseph, 48-44, in the regular-season finale. The Bears earned the No. 8 seed and will take on Warde in the quarters.

Warde secured the top seed with its 54-40 win over Staples, while defending league champion Ridgefield and Greenwich ended their season on winning notes as well. Ridgefield takes the No. 4 seed over Greenwich thanks to the Tigers’ win over Greenwich earlier this year.

Ridgefield and Greenwich will face each other in the 4-5 game in a rematch of last year’s championship game.

Ludlowe and Wilton, who also won on Wednesday, are the No. 6 and 7 seeds, respectively.
