CIAC honors 32 scholar-athletes from FCIAC

SOUTHINGTON – There were 32 seniors from FCIAC schools honored for their excellence as student-athletes.

when they were among the 348 students from the state who were their respective school’s recipients of the Connecticut Association of Schools-Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete Award during the 33rd annual CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club on May 1.

This annual Scholar Athlete award honors two seniors – one girl and one boy – from most of the 180 CAS-CIAC member high schools.

The 32 seniors from the 17 FCIAC schools who received their awards, with the girls listed before the boys and their respective schools in parenthesis, included: Leslie Perez Wong and Yoel Salvador (Bridgeport Central), Olivia Begos and Dylan Finn (Brien McMahon), Katelyn Mooney and Sunchet Saoji (Danbury), Sarah LeHan and Christian Ostberg (Darien), Regan Steed and Richie Bellucci (Fairfield Ludlowe), Gabriella Natoli and Jackson Stearns (Fairfield Warde), Emily Berolla and Thomas Glover (Greenwich), Claire Conley and David Strupp (New Canaan), Alexandra Whalen and George Kutrubis (Norwalk), Emma Hergenrother and Chase Levesque (Ridgefield), Marissa Grasso and Cameron Ryan (St. Joseph), Kaitlyn Hutter and Gilmar Barrios (Stamford), Rachel Stanford and Jack Griffin (Staples), Elle Smyth and Dillon Daine (Trinity Catholic), Christina DeBenedetto and William Auten (Trumbull), and Mary Catherine Lynch and Matthew Krishan Ravichandran (Wilton).

The student-athletes were honored for their exemplary academic and athletic careers along with having several other attributes such as having earned high achievements and displayed integrity. The honorees were chosen by the member schools and submitted to the CAS-CIAC scholar athlete organization.
