Danbury’s Theodorakis takes third in Carter Cup at Winged Foot

Max Theodorakis made a strong showing at the Winged Foot Golf Club on Wednesday, finishing tied for third in the Metropolitan Golf Association’s 14th Carter Cup.

Theodorakis, a 2016 graduate of Danbury High School, shot a 4-over par 144 in two rounds and finished just two strokes off the lead.

The course played tough, as no golfers were under par and the lead score of 142 was 2-over par. Ethan Ng of New York, N.Y., and Brent Ito of Ardsley, N.Y., tied for the top spot, and Ng won in a playoff.

Theodorakis finished tied with John Pak of Scottsdale, N.J.

The Carter Cup is a one-day event, with golfers playing two rounds of 18 holes — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Each golfer plays one round each on Winged Foot’s East and West courses.

Theodorakis shot 72 in each round. In the morning session, he had three birdies and 11 pars, and in the afternoon, he had three birdies and 10 pars.

New Canaan’s Justin Clark, another FCIAC star who graduated this spring, struggled with a 160 (79-81).

In June, Theodorakis tied for medalist honors at the FCIAC championship, and took the top spot in the CIAC Div. I championship.

The former Danbury Hatter, who will play DI golf for North Carolina’s Campbell University, also was the runner-up at the Met Junior Championship in July.

Clark won the annual Hap Holohan Invitational, which is essentially the FCIAC’s individual championship.
