Westhill’s Skoparantzos receives UCAN Inspire Award at Walter Camp’s Breakfast of Champions

The Walter Camp Football Foundation hosted a High School “Breakfast of Champions” at Anthony’s in Ocean View in New Haven last weekend and several FCIAC players and coaches were among the honorees.

Westhill Vikings senior Evan Skoparantzos, a TE/DE, was the recipient of the “UCAN Inspire Award,” presented by Walter Camp Weekend sponsor Generation UCAN. Skoparantzos, who was diagnosed with cancer when he was five years old, is a cancer survivor and has become a three-sport varsity athlete at Westhill High School.

Ansonia won two individual awards as running back Arkeel Newsome was named the Player of the Year, and head coach Tom Brockett was named the Coach of the Year.

New Canaan head coach Lou Marineli, who led his team to a 14-1 record and FCIAC and Class L championships, was one of the finalists for the Coach of the Year Award.

The players on the 2013 Walter Camp All-Connecticut Team, presented by Achieve Athletics, were recognized. FCIAC players are in bold.
