Class LL champion Danbury named CHSCA Cheerleading Team of the Year

The Danbury High School cheerleaders captured the CIAC Class LL championship, and was named the CHSCA Cheerleading Team of the Year, during the finals on Saturday, March 8, at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

The Hatters had a team score of 180.3 to beat Shelton’s 177.4 for first place. Newtown was third at 172.8.

Danbury’s roster includes Amanda Calabrese, Maddie Dunbar, Katie Fellmeth, Nicole Freitas, Kaylah Genao, Alden Grober, Madison Pues, Courtney Sabene, Dominique Scott, Kennedy Shook, Trinh Tran, Nyana Williams, Cayla Balzarini and Brittany Falkowski. The team is coached by Joann Tatarzycki and Joyce Robbins, and assisted by Samantha Robbins and Brianne Shepard.

As the CHSA Team of the Year, the Danbury cheerleaders will be honored at the All-State banquet on Tuesday, March 25.

The FCIAC did well at the cheerleading finals, with Stamford winning the coed title over Staples 166.5-152.0, and St. Joseph winning Class M with 173.4 points.

Also for the FCIAC in Class LL, Trumbull was fourth with 160.5, followed by Ludlowe (151.1), Ridgefield in eighth (148.3), Greenwich and Warde tied for ninth (147.6), Westhill in 12th (140.0), Norwalk in 18th (117.8), and Darien in 20th (98.7). In the coed division, Brien McMahon was 16th (97.6).
