There’s been no sophomore jinx this spring for New Canaan’s Sarah Mannelly, who is in the midst of a stellar second season with the Boston College women’s lacrosse team.

Mannelly, a midfielder, has 36 points in 11 games for the Eagles, who are ranked No. 5 in the country. She’s second on the team with 28 goals, while dishing out eight assists, and has also picked up 13 groundballs, eight draw controls and 10 caused turnovers.

Mannelly was recently named an Eagle of the Week for her performance during the Eagles 14-13 loss to No. 1 North Carolina on March 22 in Newton, Mass. She led BC with five points on four goals and one assist.

Boston College is 9-3 this season, while North Carolina is 11-1.

The Tar Heels led 12-9 with 18:03 to play in the second half, but Boston College came back with a 3-0 run to tie the game at 12-12. Mannelly started that rally when she spun through the middle and beat the goalie with 14:34 on the clock.

The score was tied again at 13-13 with under a minute to play, when North Carolina’s Aly Messinger scored on a free position with 28 seconds remaining.

Mannelly has had multiple goals in nine of BC’s 12 games, including a season-best four three times, first against Notre Dame in a 15-10 opening day victory, then against North Carolina, and again in a 13-9 win over Harvard on March 26.

Mannelly also had two goals and one assist in an 11-5 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 2.

The Eagle’s roster also includes former Darien Blue Waver Cali Ceglarski, a sophomore midfielder. Ceglarski has five goals and one assist for six points this season.

Boston College has a couple of big road games coming up, playing at Duke on Saturday, April 5, and at Virginia on Thursday, April 10.
