Four FCIAC wrestlers win State Open crowns; Danbury Hatters take team second

Four FCIAC wrestlers won championships and the Danbury Hatters took second place in the team standings at the CIAC State Open this weekend.

Warde had a pair of champions, as Timmy Kane defeated  Danbury’s Jeremy Fields 1-0 at 126 pounds, and Charlie Kane defeated Nonnewaug’s Kieran Duggan 5-1 at 138 pounds.

Trumbull’s Cross Cannone captured the 132-pound championship via pinfall, beating Southington’s Zachary Bylykbashi in 2:55.

Juan Garcia of Danbury took the 182-pound title, beating Branford’s Dakota Carden in a major decision, 11-1.

Danbury’s Jacob Camacho was also a finalist, and he finished as the runner-up at 106 pounds, losing to Southington’s Zachary Murillo, 10-2.

Overall, the FCIAC had six finalists, 12 semifinalists, and 20 quarterfinalists at the Open.

In the team standings, Newtown won the championship with 159 points, while Danbury was second at 112.5. Warde (98) was fifth and Trumbull (88) was sixth.
