HAN on demand: Trinity Catholic vs. Westhill boys basketball

The Trinity Catholic vs. Westhill boys basketball game from Fri., Jan. 19, is available on demand by clicking here.

Original Story: Two Stamford city rivals battle on the hardwood as the Trinity Catholic Crusaders travel to Westhill High School to take on the Vikings live on the HAN Network on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7 pm.

You can watch the HAN Network’s live pregame show at 6:50 p.m., and the game live at HAN.Network, FCIAC.net or on Frontier Communications’ Vantage Sports Network (Chs. 600/1600). Kevin Coleman and Mike Suppe will be on the call.

Trinity Catholic enters the rivalry game with a 5-1 conference record and are 6-3 overall. The Crusaders are on a three game winning streak with wins over, Darien 52-42, New Canaan 61-46, and Norwalk 77-62.

Led by head coach Mike Walsh, the Crusaders bring back key starters from last year’s team that won the Class S state championship, defeating top-seeded Westbrook, 61-52, to claim the program’s seventh state title. Senior forwards Dutreil Contavio and Dimitry Moise are dynamic playmakers with size and speed that can not only take over games but intimidate their opponents.

The Westhill Vikings look to rebound against their city rival after dropping their last eight games. The Vikings have lost some close games that could have gone the other way, as their last victory came back on Dec. 18 in a 57-55 effort against Weston.

Westhill head coach Howard White and his players are still searching for their identity as they have gotten off to a slow start to the season.

After missing the preseason, senior Rashawn Gibson has been given the opportunity to be the point guard of his squad after making his first varsity start last week against Norwalk. Gibson will look to run the floor along with the young talent on the roster that are gaining quality experience at the varsity level.

Trinity’s Dimitry Moise battles for a rebound against New Canaan’s Jack Richardson during a game last season. Moise and the Crusaders will take on city rival Westhill on the HAN Network on Friday night, Jan. 19. — Dave Stewart/HAN Network photo
