District 1

Meg Williamson - Greenwich

Meg Williamson is a a senior at Greenwich High School and was a captain of the Cardinals’ field hockey team which captured the FCIAC Western Division and State Class L championships this year.

Williamson, who joined the varsity team as a sophomore, was a two-year starter at midfield. She played in National Futures Championship last summer, and plays in Futures Elite.

Williamson is also a varsity lacrosse player at GHS.

Academically, Williamson is a member of both the National Honor Society and the French Honor Society.

 

Ignacio Assalini - Greenwich

Greenwich High School senior Ignacio Assalini is a three-year player on the Cardinals’ boys’ soccer team, and was named to the All-FCIAC First Team and the All-State team in the fall.

He made the junior varsity squad as a freshman, moved up to the varsity level as a sophomore and was named a captain for his senior season.

In the classroom, Assalini has made the school’s High Honor Roll in every semester of his high school career.

 

Brittany Daniel - Westhill

Brittany Daniel is a senior at Westhill High School and is a standout on the Vikings’ girls’ swimming team.

A freestyler, Daniel was a member of the Vikings’ 400 freestyle relay squad, which placed first in several dual meets this season, before finishing ninth at the State Class LL championships in November.

Daniel also competed individually in the 500 freestyle, earning a first-place finish in a dual meet against St. Joseph. She also placed in the event at the Class LL meet, earning two points by coming in 23rd.

Daniel swam the 200 and 500 freestyles and the 400 freestyle relay in the FCIAC trials.

Academically, Daniel maintains a GPA of 3.4 at Westhill High School.

 

Lauren Sass - Westhill

Senior Lauren Sass of Westhill High School is a two-year member of the Vikings’ varsity field hockey team, and was named a captain for the 2009 season. Sass helped lead the Vikings to the Stamford city championship, as well as berths in the State tournament, in each of the past two years.

Sass also plays for the Westhill junior varsity lacrosse team, as the Vikings are building their program up to the varsity level.

Sass is involved with several school groups, including the yearbook staff as the sports editor in 2009-2010. She has worked with the Interact Club and Best Buddies since 2006, and is a student at the Center Stage Dance Studio since 1995.

She is also a synchronized skater and, from 2003-2005, was a co-captain for the Shimmers, a competitive team which travels throughout the United States. That team placed third in the nation during a competition in Colorado in 2005.

In the classroom, Sass has taken honors classes since her freshman year, including biology, geometry, English, algebra, civics/world history, pre-calculus, calculus, physics, psychology, forensics and human physiology. She has also taken several Advanced Placement courses during the past two years, including two years of English and one each of US history and biology.

Sass volunteers with the American Red Cross, the Bennet Cancer Center Walk, the American Red Cross Blood Drive, the Stamford Food Bank and St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Church, where she was also an alter server from 2001 to 2005.

She took Red Cross First Aid and CPR in December and passed the Red Cross Certified Babysitting Course in 2005.

Sass also worked as an intern at the Columbia School of Nursing during the summer of 2009.

District 2

Jeffrey Starr - Brien McMahon

Senior Jeffrey Starr is a standout wrestler and football player at Brien McMahon High School.

Starr has played varsity football since his sophomore year and has received All-FCIAC honors for three seasons.

The 6-4, 295-pound offensive lineman earned a spot on the All-conference Second Team for two years, and was named to the league’s First Team as a senior. He was also named the Lineman of the Year by the BMHS coaching staff.

On the wrestling mats, Starr was the FCIAC champion in the heavyweight class last winter, earning All-FCIAC First Team honors after the victory. He was undefeated during the regular season in 2008-09 and was received the Brian Wilderman Most Outstanding Wrestler Award at last year’s FCIAC finals.

 

Sean Gill - Darien

Sean Gill is a three-sport athlete at Darien High School, as he runs year-round with the Blue Wave’s cross county and indoor and outdoor track teams

Gill, a captain of the indoor track and field team, is the Wave’s top athlete in the 600-meter run and hurdles, and is one of the team’s top 400- and 800-meter runners.

As a junior running indoor track, he placed third in the 600, and sixth in the 45-meter hurdles at the FCIAC East Meet, and then finished in the top 15 in the 600 at the State Class MM meet.

Last spring, Gill scored the fourth most points on his team and scored the most points among the non-seniors. He took fourth place in the 300-meter hurdles at the FCIAC championship meet and was part of the Wave’s 4x400 relay team which placed fourth.

During the cross country schedule of his senior year, Gill ran as in the Wave’s fifth through eighth spots throughout the season.

Gill also played tennis during his first two years at DHS, and was the No. 2 singles player with an 9-2 record on the JV team as a sophomore.

Academically, Gill carries a 3.55 GPA and is currently taking two Advanced Placement courses, including literature and composition and calculus.

During his sophomore year, Gill took Honors world studies, and attended Japanese School on Saturdays. Then as a junior, he took Honors precalculus and Honors American literature, as well as AP US history.

Gill writes for the school paper, and is the Clarinet Section leader and assistant drum major in Band Class.

District 3

Anthony Wadelton - Fairfield-Ludlowe

Anthony Wadelton is a senior at Fairfield-Ludlowe High School, and was a starting defensive lineman for the Falcons’ varsity football team. The 5-9, 175-pound Wadelton was named to the All-FCIAC Central Second Team for his performance this fall, as Ludlowe finished the year 5-5.

Academically, Wadelton is on the Headmaster’s List at FLHS.

 

Marissa Mullen - Fairfield-Ludlowe

Marissa Mullen is a three-year player with the Falcons’ varsity volleyball team, and was a team captain this season as Ludlowe went 16-2 during the regular season and reached the semifinals of the FCIAC tournament.

Mullen was named to the All-FCIAC Second Team, and received the Coach’s award for Outstanding Attitude and Athletic Achievements

She also played ice hockey for the school’s junior varsity team during her sophomore year.

Academically, Mullen has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.8. She was on the Headmaster’s List during each year of her high school career and has taken numerous honors and advanced placement courses, including AP environmental science and AP modern European history. She also received the Falcon of the Month Award, given for “Niche”

Mullen is the American Field Service President this year after serving as vice-president during her junior year, and has been the Chief Photography Editor of the Ludlowe Yearbook or the past three years.

She was also involved with a community service club which traveled to New Orleans to help with hurricane relief during her freshman, sophomore and junior years.

A member of Ludlowe Leaders, she has helped lead freshman tours around the school and helped with freshman orientation, and as a sophomore she was the news anchor for the “Falcon Report” morning announcements.

 

Eden Shoshan - Fairfield-Warde

Eden Shoshan is a sophomore at Fairfield-Warde High School, and competes in the Mustangs’ varsity swimming and diving team during the fall.

Shoshan qualified for the State Class M finals in the 100 butterfly last winter and for the State Class L finals in both the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly this fall. She has also qualified for the FCIAC trials in each of the past two seasons.

During the winter, Shoshan stays active in the Warde swim program as the manager of the boys’ swimming and diving team, and last spring, she competed with the girls’ outdoor track and field.

Academically, Shoshan is a recipient of the Science Scholar-Award last year, and she has made the school honor roll in every semester of her high school career.

 

Victoria Ard - Fairfield-Warde

Victoria Ard is a senior at Fairfield-Warde High School, and a member of the Mustangs’ cheerleading squad. She also competes in club gymnastics.

In the classroom, Ard is on the Headmaster’s List and is consistently on the school honor roll. She has also received the Excellence in Spanish and is a scholar in health studies.

 

District 4

Kate Flewelling - Trumbull

Trumbull High School senior Kate Flewelling is a standout athletes for the Golden Eagles’ diving and gymnastics teams.

In diving Flewelling competed in the FCIAC championships years and qualified for the State Class LL meet in each of the past four years. She placed fifth at the Class LL meet at a senior, after placing eighth as a junior, 11th as a sophomore, and 18th as a freshman.

She also earned a spot in the State Open championships during the past three seasons, placing 25th as a sophomore, 22nd as a junior and 11th as a senior.

Flewelling is the school record holder for six dives with a score of 209.1m and for 11 dives with a score of 360.15.

A member of the varsity gymnastics team this winter, Flewelling has also been in club competition with USA Gymnastics for the past four years.

Academically, Flewelling has been on the Trumbull honor roll in ever semester of her high school career. She also has a GPA of 3.6 and was a finalist for the FOX61 Student News Award for Video Production

 

Makenzie Lannon - Trumbull

Makenzie Lannon is a senior at Trumbull High School and is a four-year member of the Eagles’ varsity field hockey team. Her teammates chose her to be a team tri-captain this past fall, and she led the team with high spirits and camaraderie.

Lannon was part of Trumbull’s defense, but she also collected several goals and assists, and earned an All-FCIAC West nod for her performance.

Academically, Lannon is a member of the THS National Honor Society and has consistently been on the honor roll during all four years of her high school career.

Lannon is also a member of the girls’ varsity lacrosse team at THS and is currently secretary of the school’s Student Council.

 

District 5

Daniel Savo - Danbury

Daniel Savo is a senior at Danbury High School and is a four-year player in the Hatters’ football program, starting at offensive guard for the varsity team

Savo was the recipient of the football sportsmanship award for the junior varsity team during his sophomore and junior years, and earned the varsity sportsmanship award this year.

Away from the school, Savo coaches flag football in the Danbury youth league, tutors, teaches religious education and volunteers for DAWs (Danbury Animal Welfare).

Savo is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the DHS honor roll during all four years of his high school career. He is also a member of Film Club, where he directs and edits films that are seen on local cable channels.

 

Nick Todman - Danbury

Nick Todman is a senior at Danbury High School and is a two-sport captain for the Hatters’ varsity football and indoor track and field teams. During the fall, the 6-1, 240-pound Todman started on the offensive line for the Danbury football team, earning All-FCIAC West First Team honors for his performance.

Todman is consistently on the DHS honor roll and has a GPA of 3.8 GPA while taking multiple honors and advanced placement classes. Todman competed in the Science Horizons science fair and made it into the finals, and he also volunteered for Ability Beyond Disability, Special Olympics and other various causes.
