A pair of city hoops stars are the first 2012-13 winter season recipients of the MSG Varsity FCIAC Player of the Week awards.

Roy Kane of the Norwalk Bears and Megan D’Alessandro of the Westhill Vikings both earned the honor based on their performances during the week of Dec. 10-15.

Kane had a triple double during the Bears’ 59-54 win over city rival Brien McMahon on Friday, Dec. 14, finishing with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Kane, a sophomore forward, also led Norwalk with a game-best 26 points in an 80-66 victory against Danbury in the season opener on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

D’Alessandro had a big night as she contributed a double-double during Westhill’s 48-35 victory over the Wilton Warriors on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The senior forward scored a game-high 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Two days later, D’Alessandro scored 24 points to again lead the Vikings to a win, 47-44, against the Darien Blue Wave. She sank 13-of-17 free throws in the two games.

Kane and the Norwalk Bears’ boys team head into play on Friday, Dec. 21, with a record of 3-0, while D’Alessandro and the Westhill Vikings girls are 3-1.
