Andrew Read, Alexa Pfohl named FCIAC Players of the Week

Basketball captains Andrew Read of New Canaan and Alexa Pfohl of Trumbull have been named the MSG Varsity FCIAC Players of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5.
Read, a senior, led the New Canaan Rams to their first two victories of the season, including a 51-41 upset of defending FCIAC champion Bassick last Friday night in New Canaan.
Read netted a game-high 17 points, including 10 during the fourth quarter when the Rams outscored the Lions 18-8. Read was 7-for-8 on free throws in the fourth quarter, including 6-for-6 in the final 1:06. Read also racked up 17 points in a 47-42 win at Trumbull on Wednesday.

Pfohl had a big week as she helped the Golden Eagles win three games in four days to remain unbeaten.
The senior guard led Trumbull with a game-high 16 points and seven rebounds during a 51-40 win at New Canaan on Wednesday, Jan. 2, and then had nine points, six rebounds and five assists in a 43-31 win versus Darien two days later.
Pfohl was named the MVP of the Masuk Holiday girls basketball tournament, which wrapped up on Saturday, Jan. 5, after the final was postponed due to snow on Dec. 29. Pfohl netted 16 points, and was a perfect 8-for-8 on free throws, during the Eagles’ 55-30 win over Ridgefield in the final.
