New Canaan, Wilton upset wins stir up FCIAC boys hoops standings

A pair of big upsets knocked the FCIAC boys basketball standings for a loop last Friday, as two top contenders suffered their first losses of the winter.

St. Joseph (6-1 overall, 4-1 FCIAC) suffered its first defeat the season when they were defeated by the Wilton Warriors, 67-46, at WHS. The win was the third straight for the Warriors, who are 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

In New Canaan, the host Rams also scored a double-digit victory as they topped defending FCIAC champion Bassick, 51-41. Bassick fell to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the league, while New Canaan won its second straight and is 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the FCIAC.

The results left the Trinity Catholic Crusaders with the league’s best record at 5-0 in the conference and 7-0 overall. Westhill is also perfect in league play at 4-0, and is 5-1 in league play.

Bassick and St. Joseph will look to get back on track tonight, as Bassick hosts Darien and St. Joe’s hosts Greenwich, both at 7 p.m.

The highlight of the tonight’s schedule features the Norwalk Bears (6-1 overall, 4-1 FCIAC) at the Westhill Vikings at 7 p.m.
