FCIAC teams on quest for State championships

Nineteen FCIAC teams remain in the hunt for championships, as the state tournaments move into their second week of action beginning on Monday, Nov. 12.
That total includes seven in girls soccer, and four each in boys soccer, field hockey, and volleyball.
Girls Soccer - Monday, Nov. 12
A total of seven FCIAC girls soccer teams will be in action on Monday as the playoffs move into the second round.
Five of those teams are featured in the Class LL tournament.
In an all-league contest, No. 5 Trumbull (13-2-3) will face No. 21 Westhill (9-6-2) at 2 p.m. in Trumbull.
Also on the slate for Monday, No. 16 Ludlowe (10-5-2) will play at top-seeded Glastonbury (16-0-0) at 2 p.m., No. 25 Darien (7-7-3) will play at No. 9 Hamden (12-3-2) at 2 p.m., and No. 11 Greenwich (12-1-6) will play at No. 6 Newtown (13-1-3) at 5 p.m.
In Class L action, No. 9 Wilton (10-4-4) will play at No. 8 Farmington (10-3-4) at Tunxis Mead at 4 p.m., while in Class M, No. 6 St. Joseph (14-3-2) will play at No. 11 Waterford (12-3-2) at 2 p.m.
Field Hockey - Monday, Nov. 12
The CIAC field hockey tournaments are in the quarterfinal rounds, with four FCIAC teams still kicking.
In Monday’s Class L playoffs, No. 9 Greenwich (14-4-0-0) will take on No. 1 Darien (18-1-0-0) in a clash of this year’s FCIAC co-champions. That game will be hosted by Darien at 2 p.m.
In another Class L contest, No. 5 New Canaan (14-3-2-0) will travel to Brookfield to face No. 4 New Milford (13-2-2-0) at 2 p.m.
In Class M action, The top-seeded Wilton Warriors (18-1-0-0) will host No. 9 Joel Barlow (10-5-2-0) at 4 p.m.
Boys Soccer - Tuesday, Nov. 13
In Class LL boys soccer, the top-seeded Bears of Norwalk are in the quarterfinals after knocking off fellow FCIAC team Staples, 1-0, in Saturday’s second round. Norwalk (18-1-1) will host No. 9 Newtown (13-2-3) at 2 p.m., Tuesday.
No. 7 Greenwich (14-3-2) and No. 12 Stamford (13-4-2) are also alive in Class LL and will play in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Stamford will host No. 29 Newington (9-8-1), while Greenwich plays at No. 2 Amity (15-1-2). Both games are scheduled for 2 p.m.
In Class L, the Darien Blue Wave (9-7-1) upset rival New Canaan in the first round and earned a second-round match-up with No. 2 Joel Barlow (12-0-3). That game will be played at Barlow in Redding at noon, Monday, with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line.
Volleyball - Tuesday, Nov. 13
The CIAC Class LL volleyball tournament will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 13, with four FCIAC teams among the eight quarterfinalists.
No. 1 Darien (21-0) will host No. 9 Greenwich (16-5) in an all-FCIAC contests at 4 p.m., while No. 3 Fairfield-Ludlowe (20-1) hosts No. 6 Newtown (15-4) at 7 p.m.
No. 10 Staples (15-5), meanwhile, will take to the road and face No. 2 Cheshire (18-1) at 7 p.m.
