FOOTBALL: St. Joseph rolls over Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD — There would be no need for an epic comeback this time.

A year after stunning Ridgefield by rallying from 25 down in the fourth quarter, St. Joseph took control early on Friday night at Tiger Hollow, rolling to a 42-0 win.

“I thought our defense competed well. I saw Ridgefield play last week and I thought they were a good offensive team,” St. Joe’s coach Joe DellaVecchia said. “To hold them to no points and not much offense was a credit to our defensive guys.”

Boys Soccer: Greenwich hands Trumbull 1st loss

TRUMBULL — There were lots of saves for Jimmy Johnson on Thursday night at Trumbull as he and the Greenwich boys soccer team dealt the Eagles their first loss, 1-0.

One stood out: No. 1.

“That first save kind of set the tone,” Johnson said; it took a while but was a beauty on Trumbull’s first extended pressure of the evening.

“You’re not going to get through our defense, and even if you get through our back line, you’re not going to get through me.”
