Eight teams ready to roll in 2018 FCIAC Baseball Tournament

At long last, the match-ups are set for the 2018 FCIAC Baseball tournament, which will get underway tomorrow, Monday, May 21, with four quarterfinal contests.

The final piece of the puzzle was put in place today, when the Danbury Hatters defeated the Greenwich Cardinals 9-2 at Brien McMahon High School. That had a domino effect on much of the tournament seeds, as Danbury stepped up to No. 3, with Darien dropping to No. 4.

The result also finalized the No. 5 through 7 seeds.

Here’s the complete schedule for the playoffs:

FCIAC Baseball Quarterfinals – Mon., May 21

No. 8 Ludlowe (8-8) at No. 1 Ridgefield (13-3), 4 p.m.

No. 7 Greenwich (9-7) at No. 2 Staples (13-3), 4 p.m.

No. 6 St. Joseph (10-6) at No. 3 Danbury (11-5), 4 p.m.

No. 5 Trumbull (10-6) at No. 4 Darien (11-5), 4 p.m.

FCIAC Semifinals at Cubeta Stadium, Stamford – Tues., May 22, 5 and 7:30 p.m.

FCIAC Final at Cubeta Stadium, Stamford – Thurs., May 24, 7 p.m.

The Ridgefield Tigers and Staples Wreckers finished tied at the top of the league standings with 13-3 records, and Ridgefield took the No. 1 spot based on its 3-2 win over Staples on May 7. Staples slipped in at No. 2

The Danbury Hatters and Darien Blue Wave also finished tied, for the third spot with 11-5 league marks, with Danbury at No. 3 and Darien at No. 4 based on the Hatters’ 3-2 win over Darien on April 20.

The Trumbull Eagles and St. Joseph Cadets are both 10-6 and tied for fifth place, with Trumbull taking No. 5 and St. Joseph at No. 6 based on the Eagles’ 9-0 shutout of the Cadets on May 2.

Greenwich finished 9-7 in league play and is the No. 7 seed, with the Ludlowe Falcons, who were 8-8 in the FCIAC, taking the No. 8 seed. Brien McMahon also finished 8-8 but was out of the playoffs because of Ludlowe’s 9-7 win over McMahon back on April 11.
