The Staples girls soccer team scored a dramatic 2-1 win over New Canaan on Friday, scoring twice in the final nine minutes. After the game at Dunning Field, however, Wreckers’ head coach Barry Beattie wasn’t looking to address the rally.

“To be honest, I don’t really want to talk about the last nine minutes because I think the best team lost the game,” Beattie said. “I don’t think they lost the game through any quality of ours, we just raised the intensity. I’m sick preaching to my kids that if they raise the intensity, they’ll win the game. Finally, they got it but the praise should really go the other team.”

New Canaan had the vast advantage in almost every aspect of play for more than 70 minutes but, heartbreakingly for the Rams, the game was lost with 1:36 remaining.
