Darien beats No. 3 Fairfield Prep, but No. 1 Blue Wave still seeking consistency

DARIEN — When Darien plays the way it did in the first period Monday at Darien Ice House, it’s hard not to see the Blue Wave as the best boys hockey team in the state.

It’s the way it played in the second and third that gives its coach pause, even after a 6-3 win for the No. 1 Blue Wave over No. 3 Fairfield Prep. They’re strong enough to outskate some good teams, like they did to the Jesuits, like they did a little over a week ago in a 5-2 win over No. 2 Notre Dame-West Haven.
