FOOTBALL: Darien keeps on rolling, beating Stamford

DARIEN—Coming off beating the No. 1 team in the state in St. Joseph last week and dealing with homecoming at Darien and all the distractions that brings, one might have excused the Darien football team if its focus was not razor-sharp heading into a contest with Stamford.

Saturday against Stamford, the Blue Wave came out on point, scoring on six of its first seven drives with the lone exception being the end of the half when they took a knee.

“It’s not a day I like remembering or talking about,” the player the Senators call “Lucky” said of the massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck his native Haiti, killing more than 100,000 people. “I know it was just one day, but that one day destroyed a lot of people’s lives and took away a lot of people’s hopes.”
