Eight FCIAC cross country teams ranked in latest state polls

There were four girls cross country teams from the FCIAC and four conference boys teams who were ranked among the top 10 in the latest soundRUNNER Connecticut High School Coaches XC Poll which was released Sept. 22.

This is the first poll for the regular season as the Glastonbury girls team and the Hall (West Hartford) boys team maintained their No. 1 rankings from the preseason poll.

There are two FCIAC girls teams among the top three in the Poll #1 of the regular season as New Canaan and Ridgefield are ranked second and third, respectively.

Glastonbury which received all 16 first-place votes.

New Milford is ranked fourth and E.O. Smith is fifth.

The four ranked FCIAC teams are all among the top seven as Greenwich moved up one spot to No. 6 and Wilton made a huge jump up to No. 7 after the Warriors received the 20th most polling points in the preseason poll.

Hall, New Fairfield and Cheshire complete the Top 10 in Girls Poll #1.

There were 16 teams in the Also Receiving Votes category, including three from the FCIAC. Trumbull received the 12th most polling points. Danbury got the 18th most and Staples the 19th most.

Hall received 11 of the 14 first-place votes to maintain its ranking atop Boys Poll #1.

FCIAC teams Staples, Danbury, Ridgefield, and Fairfield Warde are all ranked among the top nine. Staples and Danbury are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively. Ridgefield and Warde are ranked eighth and ninth, respectively.

Xavier, New Milford and Guilford are ranked 2-4.

Daniel Hand is ranked seventh and East Lyme is No. 10.

There are five FCIAC teams among the top 11 as Trumbull received the 11th most polling points as the first team in the Also Receiving Votes category. Fairfield Ludlowe received the 21st most polling points.

There are five FCIAC coaches among the 16 total coaches statewide who vote on the girls poll and the conference has five of the 14 coaches on the boys poll.

St. Joseph coach Heidi Langan and Fairfield Warde coach Tim Foster each vote on both polls.

Jeff Brentson of New Canaan, Jordan Magath of Staples, and Steve Norris of Darien are the other three FCIAC coaches on the girls poll.

The three other conference coaches on the boys poll are Sean Astle of Greenwich, Laddie Lawrence of Staples, and Rob Murray of Danbury.

The Staples and Danbury boys teams were scheduled to run against each other in the regular season this Wednesday, Sept. 28, when Danbury was set to host Staples, Greenwich and St. Joseph at Tarrywile Park.
