Trumbull is No. 1, Norwalk No. 4 in latest state boys soccer Top 10 poll

Trumbull is ranked No. 1 and Norwalk is ranked fourth as the two teams from the FCIAC ranked in the top 10 of the CSCA CT High School Boys Soccer Coaches Class LL/L Poll which was released Oct. 11.

Trumbull’s undefeated Eagles had a 10-0 record at the time the voting took place and they received five first-place votes from the 10 voters and 96 polling points.

Hall (8-0-1) is ranked No. 2 after receiving four first-place votes and 94 polling points.

Glastonbury (8-0-1), which received the other first-place vote, is ranked third.

Norwalk’s unbeaten Bears earned No. 4 as they were 7-0-3 after a pair of ties in road games at the end of the week preceding the latest voting.

The teams ranked 5-10, in order, are Shelton (8-0-1), Guilford (7-1-2), seventh-ranked Bethel (6-0-3), South Windsor (6-0-2), Cheshire (7-2), and Berlin (7-1-1).

Norwalk and Danbury played to a scoreless tie, then Norwalk followed that with a 1-1 tie at Fairfield Warde.

Those games had enough of an impression on voters that Fairfield Warde and Danbury were the two FCIAC teams among the eight total teams statewide in the “Others receiving votes” category. Fairfield Warde received the 12th most polling points and Danbury got the 15th most.

Since the poll voting took place, Trumbull’s potent Eagles improved to 11-0 with their 5-0 victory at St. Joseph on Oct. 12 so they led the FCIAC standings with 33 points as of the games played through Oct. 12.

Norwalk (8-0-3) was second with 27 points.

Darien and New Canaan were tied for third as they both had 21 points with their identical 7-4 records.

Greenwich (6-3-2) was fifth with 20 points, just one point ahead of sixth-place Danbury, which had 19 points with its 5-2-4 record.

Fairfield Ludlowe (5-4-1), Ridgefield (5-5-1), and Fairfield Warde (4-2-4) were in a three-way tie for seventh place.

It has been quite the turnaround year for Trumbull, which finished 16 total points and a 4-7-4 conference record last year.

This year the Eagles will have two of their toughest challenges in their last two games of the regular season. They host Fairfield Warde on Oct. 20 and play at Norwalk on Oct. 24.

The quarterfinals of the 2022 FCIAC Boys Soccer Tournament are Oct. 27, a Thursday.

The semifinals are Nov. 1, a Tuesday, and the championship is two days later, on Nov. 3.
