Five FCIAC teams ranked in final GameTimeCT boys hockey poll

Fairfield Prep was ranked No. 1 in the Final 2022-23 GameTimeCT Top 10 Boys Hockey Poll which was very well represented by the FCIAC.

The FCIAC made up half of the Top 10 as three conference teams were ranked among the top five.

Fairfield Prep and Notre Dame-West Haven were ranked first and second, respectively, going into the state tournaments and that is where they finished in the final state poll.

Fairfield Prep shut out ND-West Haven, 3-0, to win the CIAC Division I Boys Hockey State Tournament to finish with an 18-6 record and as the unanimous choice for No. 1 with all 11 first place votes and 110 polling points.

Notre Dame-West Haven finished with an 18-5-1 record and received 99 polling points, 16 more than No. 3 New Canaan.

New Canaan (16-7-2), Darien (15-6-3), and the Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe cooperative program (17-3-2), were the FCIAC teams ranked 3-5 respectively.

New Canaan advanced to the Division I semifinals with a 4-1 quarterfinal victory over Darien before New Canaan’s Rams were eliminated in the semifinals by Notre Dame-West Haven, 5-1.

Simsbury (18-3-2) finished sixth and Division II champion North Haven (24-2-0) was seventh.

Greenwich (9-15-1) was ranked No. 8 and Ridgefield (10-13) was No. 10 as the other two FCIAC teams in the Top 10.

Northwest Catholic (11-10-1), which lost a 3-2 overtime game to Greenwich in the first round of the Division I tourney, was ranked ninth.

Darien shut out Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe co-op, 3-0, to win the 2023 FCIAC Boys Ice Hockey Tournament. Darien goalie Finley Hegarty made 28 saves and was selected the tournament’s MVP.

Charlie Schwind had a hat trick to help Coach Mac Budd’s Blue Wave advance to the championship game with a 7-3 victory over Greenwich.

Owen Gibbons scored a pair of goals while Charlie Swanson had an assist for his 100th career point while helping lead Fairfield co-op to a 5-1 victory over New Canaan in the other FCIAC tournament semifinal game.
