GHS girls soccer team shuts down Norwalk

Finishing was an issue for the Greenwich High School girls soccer team, which struggled to register goals during its first seven games of the season. Yet the past two outings have seen the Cardinals click offensively and light the scoreboard, while playing its usual solid defense.

As a result, Greenwich has posted two straight victories, one of which came Saturday when it defeated Norwalk, 6-0, at Cardinal Stadium.

Sophomore Sophia Bastek tallied twice, while Sam Sias, Nadine Anderson, Kelly Martyanov and Carly O’Brien each added one goal apiece for Greenwich (0-6-1).

FOOTBALL: Darien keeps on rolling, beating Stamford

DARIEN—Coming off beating the No. 1 team in the state in St. Joseph last week and dealing with homecoming at Darien and all the distractions that brings, one might have excused the Darien football team if its focus was not razor-sharp heading into a contest with Stamford.

Losing focus is not really part of the Darien football mindset at this point.

Saturday against Stamford, the Blue Wave came out on point, scoring on six of its first seven drives with the lone exception being the end of the half when they took a knee.

Otherwise the team kept all the momentum gained by beating St. Joe’s, rolling over the Black Knights 42-7.
